Dear Fiona, thank you for the link, it shows Longford's connection not only to the Shannon and the Atlantic but also to Dublin and the Irish Sea. The Canal is an area of the town which I have yet to visit and study in depth...it gives me an incentive to return and could be a subject of further investigation, as it seems to be so hidden.
